Mitchell House hosted the annual Limpopo Biathlon on Saturday with athletes from ages eight to 46 taking part in running and swimming according to set distances for different age groups.
For a person to be able to qualify for provincial colours and national colours a required time should be achieved in the running and swimming categories. Learners from eight schools from the province as well as independent individuals participated, with a total of 52 taking on the challenge. “The most athletes came from Laerskool Messina and we were fortunate to have our very first special needs athlete, Omphile Mashego, from Mitchell House Enrichment Centre also taking part. Biathlon is a family sport and any age and fitness level can compete,” organiser of the event, Liezel le Roux said. Athletes had to bring along cat food for donation to Trap Neuter and Return (TNR), a cat project in Louis Trichardt.
Results were not available at time of going to print.
