Laerskool Ivypark’s u.11 boys’ hockey team was crowned the champions of the Limpopo Primary Schools Hockey League by beating Pietersburg Laerskool 4-3 in the final match held at Hoërskool Pietersburg’s hockey field last Saturday.
Team captain, Makwela Setati was the hero of the match for scoring a brace. The team’s other goals were scored by Lebo Sithole and Neo Monyepao.
Head of hockey at the school, Nadia Grobler applauded the team for their gallant effort throughout the league.
“We did not start the league well. We lost some of the matches along the way and we are glad that we raised our game at the critical stages and won the important matches. We also want to thank all the coaches for their guidance and support throughout the league,” Grobler said.
She also added that they would do anything to defend their title next year. This is the first title for the u.11 team and we want to keep it here at the school. The boys worked hard for it and I don’t think they would want to lose it,” added Grobler.
