Police operation sees 890 suspects arrested, goods worth R3 million seized in Limpopo

These operations were conducted through road blocks and patrols in the CBD, village and farm areas with the aim of dealing head-on with serious crimes with the provinces hot-spots

LIMPOPO – These simultaneous Intelligent led joint operations were up and running in all the Groblersdal, Bela Bela and Thohyandou clusters until the early hours of this morning and saw the arrests of 890 suspects and  seizure of goods amounting to around R3 million, said Police spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

The suspects were arrested for various offenses ranging from illegal Immigration Act, murder, attempted murder, rape, armed robbery, burglary residence and business, business robbery, possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle, assault, carjacking, Road Traffic Act, possession of drugs and possession of suspected stolen properties.

Some of the successes include the following:

In the Groblersdal Cluster, the joint operation was conducted around the Dennilton Policing precinct and 158 motor vehicles were searched, 38 motor vehicles were tested, 586 persons were searched, 18 road Traffic fines were issued.

In the Thohoyandou Cluster, the operation was led by the Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nneke Jim Ledwaba and the Deputy Provincial Commissioner responsible for the HRM Major General Christine Moralakadi accompanied by the Cluster Commander. During the operation 40 people arrested for public drinking, 16 for contravening the road Traffic ordinance, 19 Illegal foreigners, five drunken driving and seven for failing to comply with the condition attached to liquor license.

Meanwhile in the Bela-Bela Cluster 19 people arrested for public drinking, eight illegal foreigners arrested, seven people arrested for driving under the influence of liquor, possession of dangerous weapon, non-compliance on liquor Act and one tavern was closed. 387 persons were searched, 27 motor vehicles were searched and 12 Liqour premises were visited for compliance.

The arrested suspects, suspects aged between 22 and 51 , have already started appearing before various magistrate courts across the province and others will still appear, concluded Ngoepe.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba has applauded the Police officials and other role players who assisted in the apprehension of these 890 suspects and warns that similar operation are still to be rolled out with the province.
