“I had a meeting with the hawkers and informed them that they are not allowed to erect permanent structures on the sidewalks and have to keep their space clean.”

Mashamaite said criminals hide in the overgrown bushes on vacant premises.

“That is why I initiated the campaign ‘War against Bushes’. We started to clean the overgrown bushes at one of the hot spots where criminals and drug dealers are hiding opposite the wholesalers and along Dudu Madisha Street towards Mahwelereng.”

Jabu Mashamaite (Acting Community Service Manager of THE Mogalakwena Municipality) in deep discussion with Andy Goetsch (President of Mokopane Business Chamber) and Ford Winnertz (First Vice President of Mokopane Business Chamber) on site where the Municipality is busy de-bushing over grown premises around town.

There is a big difference at the cemetery and Mashamaite promised that he will give his attention to the damaged fencing and gates at the cemetery.

“The cemetery has now been cleaned and I will make sure that it is kept clean. There is still a lot to be done in the town to solve issues of overgrown trees, illegal dumping, and drainage pipes without manholes that are also blocked by garbage. I will make sure that every problem and complaint in town is addressed, and if the complaint is for another department I will make sure that it is brought to the attention of that department.”

Mashamaite said he wants to take the opportunity to make the following statement.

“I’m getting married to the Business Chamber of Mokopane for the betterment of this town. I will work with the Business Chamber and make sure each department of the municipality is on board with us. We need to conduct a regular tour through town to identify problems, to follow up on previous problems and to see that it has been addressed.”

Goetsch said: “There are still a lot of problems that have to be addressed but this tour was a good start and I can see that the municipality is willing to tackle the problems in town. Mokopane was always one of the most beautiful towns in Limpopo and it still can be, if illegal trading and lawlessness are tackled and dealt with.”
