POLOKWANE – A video of a fire tornado on a farm near Magaliesburg has gained traction on social media overnight.

Posted by Facebook user Gregory Saunders to the Storm Report SA page on Tuesday, 9 October, the fire tornado happened on a farm near Magaliesberg. The video was taken by family members on the farm.

A fire whirl or fire devil is a whirlwind induced by a fire and are often made up of flame or ash. They usually start with a whirl of wind or smoke and occur when intense rising heat and turbulent wind conditions combine to form whirls of air.

The video has since been shared over 2 000 times.
