Grade 12 learners of Flora Park Comprehensive High School (FCHS) attended a week-long camp, from last Monday until Friday, at New Horizon School to revise and study new chapters ahead of the national Senior Certificate examination.
Principal Joseph Masekela indicated that 109 out of 157 learners attended the camp with the remaining 48 learners believed to have attended elsewhere. He said the camp will help the school achieve its ‘2018 Projects’ being 85% matric pass rate, producing 40% bachelor passes and one learner winning a provincial award.
“In June we had a winter camp that helped us attain a 83% pass rate for the trial exams. During our camps, we teach topics that learners are struggling with and this time we catered for subjects such as Mathematics, Mathematics Literacy, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Geography, Accounting, Economics, Civil Technology, African Languages, English and Consumer Studies,” Masekela explained.
He further indicated that they outsourced educators to render lessons, adding that commitment shown by both learners and educators would guarantee them better results at the end of this academic year. He also extended his appreciation to the deputy principal, James Rikhotso for working hand in glove with him.
Learners had to pay a certain amount to be part of the camp and the money paid covered accommodation and three meals a day. New Horizon School Principal Robinson Phooko stated that they have built a solid relationship with FCHS and would like the school to produce good results at the end of the year.
