Role players in the human settlements value chain in the province were honoured through the Provincial Govan Mbeki Awards for their sterling job and continued hard work by the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (Coghsta) at Protea Hotel Ranch Resort recently.
When delivering his keynote address, Coghsta MEC Jerry Ndou reportedly said the awards were about honouring the construction legends of the province and showing youth and women what they can accomplish if they are dedicated and passionate. He added that the awards provide a platform for sharing information, examining lessons learnt and strengthening existing partnerships between government and contractors.

Merit awards in the category for Best Municipality in supporting human settlements development went to Greater Tzaneen Local Municipality and Lephalale Local Municipality. Housing institutions that scooped awards are the National Home Builders Registration Council, Housing Development Agency, South African Women in Construction, Anglo Platinum and Risima Housing Finance.
In the subsidy market the award for Best Emerging Youth Contractors went to Molanco Trading Enterprise and Mathara Investments with Mathara Investments and Mikateko Trading Enterprise named as Best Emerging Woman Contractors in the category.
Ramkol Construction and Projects received the award for Best Established Youth Contractor in the subsidy market and the best housing programme while Mikateko Trading Enterprise won the Best Housing Programme class.
