Get ready for the 2018 Mapungubwe Arts Festival

The 2018 Mapungubwe Arts Festival will be launched in October, during which the MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Thandi Morake, will announce the names of the artists contracted to perform during the festival.

POLOKWANE – A report in this regard was presented to the Executive Council (Exco) during their meeting last week.

The Mapungubwe Arts Festival is intended to benefit the people of Limpopo, the South African public as well as tourists from the neighbouring countries through entertainment, education and access to cultural products.

Artists in both performing and visual arts as well as the business enterprises in the associated industries derive economic and developmental benefits.

Bid specification for the advertisement of a service provider for organising, marketing and managing the festival for the 2018/19; 2019/20 and 2020/21 financial years has been finalised.

According to a report received by the Provincial Spokesperson, Phuti Seloba, the Mapungubwe Gospel and Youth Festival will be hosted on 8 December during the evening to promote gospel music in the province and serve the local gospel music lovers.

The Mapungubwe Film Festival will be hosted by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture on 11 December at the Jack Botes Hall, where local film makers will exhibit their products and services as well as well as promote upcoming local films.

For those who enjoy a good sense of humour, the Mapungubwe Comedy Night will be hosted by the department on 14 December, and various local, national and international comedians will be in attendance.

The Mapungubwe Music Festival will be held on Saturday, 15 December, and local, national and international artists will be singing up a storm and entertain guests at the Polokwane Cricket Club.
