The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture was bestowed with the Award for Best Arts and Culture Department at the 13th South African Traditional Music Achievement Awards (Satma) held at Mmabatho Convention Centre in Mahikeng, North West on Saturday. The department was recognised for its sterling work in promoting arts and culture in the province.
Sport, Arts and Culture MEC, Thandi Moraka said the award could not have come at better time as the department concludes Heritage month activities.
“We are elated to have won the award. It is against the backdrop of such efforts that we at all times are harping on exacting outcome 14 of the National Development Plan (NDP), that of social cohesion and national identity, that we shall continue to roll up our sleeves.

We indeed feel enamoured by the award and we shall strive to do better,” Moraka said.
The Satma Awards are about celebrating music made in the style of the people and various language groups of South Africa.
The award also aims to promote, preserve, uplift, develop, honour, traditional musicians across racial and ethnic background.
