Five people killed in head-on collision near Groblesdal

Police say the process of identifying the deceased is still underway.

POLOKWANE – Police in Nebo outside Groblersdal are investigating a case of culpable homicide after five people were killed when a truck collided head-on with a sedan in Mochadi village, near St. Ritas Hospital this afternoon.

According to police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, one passenger from the sedan survived with serious injuries and five other occupants, including the driver, died instantly. “Three adults and two toddlers were killed,” he confirmed.

Ngoepe added that the eight passengers who were in the truck at the time of the accident, including the driver, sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

“The process of identifying the deceased is still underway. The cause of this accident is not clear at this stage but ongoing police investigations will tell,” he concluded.
