[WATCH] Lim Transport Dept launch Transport Month with street carnival

The event was held at the Polokwane Cricket Club.

POLOKWANE – October is Transport Month and the Limpopo Department of Transport launched it in style with a street carnival.

The procession began at SABC Park and moved through to the Polokwane Cricket Club.

Speaking at the event, the MEC Makoma Makhurupetje said this year’s launch of transport month takes place after a series of horrendous bus accidents that claimed a total of 20 lives on the N1 road.

“The lesson we have learned from this sad episode is that we have the means and capabilities of handling unforeseen eventualities such as fatal road accidents and other natural disasters. We want all our officers to keep this momentum high,” she said.

October Transport month is an annual campaign of our government that was first launched in 2005. This campaign seeks to raise awareness on the important role transport plays in comunities around South Africa.
