Another ‘Boko Haram’ group dismantled outside Tzaneen

This brings the total number of arrested members to 18

LIMPOPO – Five suspects believed to be members of a gangster group called “Boko Haram” were arrested on Friday, 21 September during a well coordinated intelligence driven operation, says police spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

The suspects, between the ages of 18 and 32-years-old were arrested following a tip off that a group of youngsters were planning to commit a business robbery in Sekororo, in the Maake policing area outside Tzaneen.

“The arrest of these five suspects brings the total number of members arrested to eighteen. They had been terrorizing the Dan and Lusaka village communities in the recent past,” he said.

During the recent arrest, the following items were recovered:
– Two 9mm firearms.
– One 7.65mm pistol.
– 41 rounds of live ammunition.
– Two Laptops.
– 17 Cellphones.
– Two bags of dagga.

“The suspects may be linked to various cases including murder and business robberies around the Tzaneen Cluster and in other clusters. We are expecting more arrests,” Ngoepe said.

The arrested suspects will soon appear before the Lenyenye and Nkoankoa Magistrate Courts.

Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Jim Ledwaba has applauded all police members from various units who participated in these operations.

“We are still determined to clean that area and other areas having similar problems,” concluded General Ledwaba.
