Fond SANBS farewell for ‘Mokgalabje’

David Phalane is finally saying goodbye at the end of September after 38 loyal years at the South African National Blood Service (SANBS).

MOKOPANE – David (65) started working at the Mokopane SANBS branch as a donor attendant in 2013.

“Since 1970 – 1980 I was an assistant nurse at Groothoek Hospital in Zebediela. The hospital taught me and gave me a certificate for nursing counsellor. I joined the SANBS in Polokwane and have been working for them since then.”

He said that he enjoyed working at the SANBS and that the personnel has become like family to him. “I am not going to do much now that I am retiring. I will just be resting at my home in Lebowakgomo with my wife. I loved working at the SANBS and I will surely miss my colleagues and donors.”

Staff members told Bosveld that they will miss his presence at the branch and that he is one of the most loyal old men they know. Moira Nesmith, Clinic Supervisor at SANBS says: “He is still the typical old school nurse and very humble. The clients used to call him ‘mokgalabje’, which means old man. I am sure they will miss him too. He was very popular among them. We wish him all the best and thank him for his great work here.”
