Changes and adjustments were made in various portfolio committees following the adoption of a motion for the reconstitution of committees and members by the house as presented by Chief Whip of the African National Congress (ANC) in the Legislature, Falaza Mdaka recently.
A statement issued by the ANC Party Caucus in the Legislature informed that Tolly Mashamaite, the party’s latest addition to the house, was the new chairperson of the Committee on Ethics and Members Interests while Maite Marutha is now the chairperson of the Committee on Petitions and Public Participation.  Dickson Masemola, previously responsible for Transport, Safety, Security and Liaison, replaces ANC Provincial Secretary Soviet Lekganyane as chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Provincial Treasury.
Gilbert Kganyago, who replaced Elias Nong in the Legislature, becomes chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Education – a position previously held by Sentle Fenyane, it was learnt. Merriam Ramadwa was named the new chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Transport, Safety, Security and Liaison.
Mdaka reportedly said the adjustments were necessitated by changes and resignations in the house and the need to continuously strengthen the Legislature’s oversight role and further congratulated the newly appointed chairpersons and wishes them well with their responsibilities.
