Police showed no mercy towards criminals during several intelligence-driven operations conducted across the province resulting in the arrest of 948 suspects on the weekend.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe indicated that the suspects aged between 19 and 57 were nabbed on charges ranging from murder, attempted murder and rape to contravention of the Immigration Act, armed robbery, fraud, theft, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and public drinking and will appear in respective courts during the week.
He added that 18 firearms, 67 rounds of live ammunition, 13 stolen motor vehicles, 20 cell phones, 15 laptops, three television sets, 12 cows, two calves, six goats, a video camera, a safe as well as big quantities of liquor, drugs, dagga and solar panels valued at R65 000 were confiscated.
Highlighting some of the arrests he said Police apprehended two suspects found in possession of two cell phones stolen during a business robbery in Senwabarwana in May. Further investigations revealed that the duo was linked to at least ten cases of business robbery in Ga-Kgare and Ga-Kobe.
In a separate incident Police arrested a 28-year-old suspect believed to have been involved in a series of residential burglaries. Two cell phones, three iPhones, a hair clipper, a GPS navigator, four master keys, a school bag, four memory sticks and a laptop were confiscated, according to Ngoepe. He said similar operations are being conducted on a weekly basis in an effort to restrict crime in the province.
Provincial Police Commissioner Nneke Ledwaba commended members for their continuous hard work in assuring the safety of Limpopo residents.
