Learners from Maseala Progressive Primary School were in a happy mood when they embarked on a three-day educational tour to various destinations in Gauteng.
The group was made up of 56 grade 4 to 7 learners accompanied by six educators. School director Masilo Mohlahlana said the school prides itself in giving learners the opportunity to learn outside of the classroom.
After an uneventful journey from Polokwane, the first stop was Tasty Treats, an internationally renowned biscuit manufacturer where learners tasted a variety of products and received complimentary gift hampers.
Stoney Ridge Christian Camp was to be their base for the duration of the trip and they enjoyed wonderful cuisine and hospitality, Mohlahlana said. Day two was not only adventurous but very educational as learners toured the World Heritage Site at Maropeng where they had fun learning about Man’s origin.
From Maropeng they proceeded to Sterkfontein Caves and more about Taung child was learned.
On their way back home they stopped at the spacious Mall of Africa where they enjoyed train rides. “Parents eagerly anticipated their time of arrival and a hearty welcome awaited them. It was a wonderful experience and learners surely explored and learnt a lot,” Mohlahlana said.
He explained that the trip was an annual event on the school calendar and offered learners the opportunity to explore and learn about their different subjects in a practical manner.
