Illegal miner’s dead body left alongside road in Giyani

According to police, the miner was killed instantly by a rock that fell on his head

LIMPOPO – Police in Giyani have opened a case of inquest after an alleged illegal miner died during an incident which occurred in an unused mine near Mapuve village outside Giyani in the early hours of this morning, 20 September.

According to police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the deceased was mining alongside others when a rock fell on his head, killing him instantly.

“His accomplices managed to remove his lifeless body from the shaft and placed him alongside the road towards Nhlaniki village. An investigation into why this was done is still unfolding,” he added.
