A happy child brings a smile to Pheodora’s face

With a passion for babies and children, Pheodora Holmes decided to enter Mrs Polokwane 2019, with the hopes of making a difference in the lives of the children at Ngwana Baby House.

POLOKWANE – She tells Review that she is not really into beauty pageants and initially did not want to enter, but, through the encouragement of her sister decided to make inquiries about what the competition is all about.

“I discovered that it’s not just a beauty pageant but it’s a program that aims to empower women to reach out to their communities and to make a difference in the lives of others.”
Pheodora is married to Benjamin, a pastor, and they have two children, Judah (9) and Tehila (4). She explains that Benjamin was surprised but supportive when she told him that she was entering the Mrs Polokwane 2019 competition.

“He told him that if it’s something I want to do then he’ll support me all the way.”

Pheodora runs a home based business named Mom & Baby Inc, which is an import and export business dealing specifically with modern cloth nappies and she own an Activkids franchise. She is also actively involved in helping her husband in the church.
“During the journey as a finalist, I have learnt that as a women we are capable of doing so much more than we think we can. We as women need to let loose of the mental and emotional chains that bind us and keep us limited. I’ve also learned that you cannot pour into others unless you are first filled up, you have to come from an empowered place in order to be able to empower others” she explains.

She says being a Mrs Polokwane finalist has exposed her to some of the ills and injustices where women and children are concerned but has also brought her to realise that there is a strength within herself that she never knew. A strength which has helped her build herself up in order to be able to encourage others.

She adds that her favourite quotes are “She believed she could and so she did” and “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, either way you’re correct”.

A breakfast to empower parents to better equip their children

Her charity of choice is the Ngwana Baby Home and she will be hosting a morning tea or breakfast event for parents, parents to be, aunts and uncles, stepparents, grandparents, guardians and teachers to help equip them with what is needed to excel in their parenting journey.

This will take place on Saturday, 29 September at 09:00 at Taberna Dei Oos, Bekker Street 108.

“Parenting is much more than just providing for your kids financially but its about being present and playing an active role in your children’s upbringing. I would like parents to be actively involved in raising their children, therefore, the topics discussed will include mental health for parents and children, proper financial planning for parents and much more,” she concludes.
