Eleven members of Pietersburg Comprehensive School’s (PCS) drum majorette troupe were selected to the provincial drum majorettes squad last month and the school’s management has expressed sheer joy and pride at their achievement.
The learners were selected during the provincial trails held in Polokwane in August and they will represent the province at the South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association (Samca) trials to be held in November at a venue in Gauteng.
Principal Rudi Fick said their inclusion in the provincial team was the result of hard work and commitment to their sport. “Most members of the provincial team were part of the team that won the Limpopo Majorette and Cheerleading Association’s provincial competition in June. They represented the province at the South African Majorette and Cheerleading competition for schools in July. Their hard work is paying off and we wish them all the best for the Samca trials,” Fick said.
Modikwa Mohlake, head coach of the squad said their achievement will inspire other learners in the school. “The learners that are in the Limpopo team are in grades 5, 6 and 7 so they will be leaving the school soon. What makes us happy is that they will be leaving a legacy and that will inspire their fellow learners to join the troupe. I am happy for them and their success will grow the sporting code in the school. We want to produce national athletes and I think we are on the right track,” Mohlake said.
