The University of Limpopo (UL) is expected to announce its new Student Representative Council (SRC) today (Thursday) after a weeklong election process concluded yesterday (Wednesday).
Sources have said that the South African Students Congress (Sasco) reportedly leads the race and is likely to take over from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and end a consecutive three-year period in office.
UL Spokesperson Johannes Selepe said the final voting started yesterday morning and results are expected for review on the same day.
Walter Tshamano, Director of Tshwane University of Technology’s Polokwane campus said their SRC elections were concluded last month and the new council will be announced in due course.
“We have all the results and are still reviewing them,” he said.
Tumelo Morobe, Marketing and Communications Manager at Capricorn TVET College said they will announce the date for their SRC elections.
“We are currently busy with Independent Electoral Commissions Workshops and once we are done the elections will be held.”
He indicated that while elections for each campus will be held separately it will be in the same month.
The University of Venda (Univen) could not be reached for comment in time before going to print.
