LIMPOPO – The road, which is 13,1 km long, cost the municipality R160 million and was funded through the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG).
Addressing the community during the official opening of the road, Tshifhango said the road will directly benefit residents in Tshikweta, Tshififi, Dzingahe, Gokolo, Siambe and Lufule villages as well as various schools and churches. At least 67 labourers, mostly local, were employed for the duration of the project.
He urged residents to look after the new infrastructure. “If you damage the road, you will have to fix it yourself and this will slow development in the area,” he cautioned.
Tshifhango added the Dzingahe/Tshififi project will improve mobility, have economic spin-offs and faster delivery of services such as SAPS, health, education and Eskom. The road infrastructure development projects in Thulamela Local Municipality support the vision and plans of the municipality that it has to be city centre by 2030.
“Gone are the days you had to brave the slippery road during the rainy season or the dust during summer. Our communities are the end user of this well-constructed road,” Tshifhango concluded.
