Tzaneen: Teacher arrested for raping girl (17) at local sports ground

The 33-year-old man will appear before the Bolobedu Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 11 September.

POLOKWANE – Police in Limpopo have condemned continuous acts of violence perpetrated against women and children.

This condemnation follows the rape of a 17-year-old girl at a village in the Mokwakwaila Policing precinct outside Tzaneen. She was raped by a 33-year-old educator.

According to police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the victim was from a nearby village on Sunday night, 9 September, when the suspect (an educator at a local high school) offered her a lift home.

“The suspect continued driving, passing the victim’s house and stopped at the local sports ground where he assaulted her and raped her,” Ngoepe said.

The matter was reported to the police whose investigations led to the arrest of the suspect.

“He will appear before the Bolobedu Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 11 September on a charge of rape.”

Ngoepe says child safety remains a societal responsibility and as a result, everyone is expected to play a parental role to their children at all times.
