He was arrested on Friday, 7 September after allegedly handing an illegal firearm to a service consultant for safekeeping before his vehicle was to be serviced.

POLOKWANE – A 32-year-old man appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today for possession of unlicensed firearm and was remanded in custody until 13 September for formal bail application.

He was arrested on Friday, 7 September after allegedly handing an illegal firearm to a service consultant for safekeeping before his vehicle was to be serviced.

“The suspect allegedly dropped off his vehicle at one of the local dealerships in Polokwane for a service. Before the service he allegedly handed over the said firearm to a service consultant for safekeeping. The firearm had its serial number filed-off and the matter was immediately reported to the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit, said Hawks spokesperson, Matimba Maluleke in a statement.

The Hawks arrested the suspects when he came to collect his vehicle later the same day, he added.

“The firearm will be subjected to forensic analysis to determine whether it was ever used in the commission of any crime,” Maluleke concluded.
