A 32-year-old man is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today (Monday) on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm following his arrest at a local motor dealership on Friday.
Limpopo Hawks Spokesperson Matimba Maluleke indicated that the suspect left his vehicle at a local dealership to be serviced and allegedly handed a firearm with the serial number filed off to the service advisor for safekeeping.
The matter was reported to the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit who arrested the person the moment he returned to collect his vehicle.
According to Maluleke the firearm will be subjected to forensic analysis to determine whether it had been used in the commission of any crime.
