Water is man’s best friend but it can also be dangerous if not treated with respect, hence Grade 4 to 7 learners of Jabez Christian Academy were cautioned to live safely around water during an educational session at the school last Wednesday.
Mercy Chuene and John Mosime of Sime Academy, a Livesaving South Africa affiliated club, captured the attention of the learners as they highlighted the dangers of wandering into unknown waters. “Don’t swim alone and don’t go into water if you don’t know how deep it is. Stay away from rocks, dangerous edges, moving logs, floating debris and drainages,” Mosime advised. Learners were also urged to be sun smart. “Use sun block, wear proper clothing and drink lots of water,” he added.
Jabez Christian Academy principal, Elana Erasmus said that she thoroughly enjoyed the presentation. “Part of our calling as educators is to help children to be safe and with the spring holiday coming up, the even came at an appropriate time,” Erasmus said.
