Pumping from the Olifantspoort water plant resumed yesterday (Wednesday) evening but reservoir levels are critically low and consumers may still experience low pressure and shortages for some hours.
Communications and Marketing Manager of Polokwane Municipality, Matshidiso Mothapo, confirmed at noon today (Thursday) that the reservoir levels are picking up very slowly despite the fact that Lepelle Northern Water is pumping at capacity. “It takes some time for the water to reach consumers, especially in the low-catchment areas when most of the reservoirs were at 0% (of capacity),” Mothapo explained.
Pumping from the plant was stopped yesterday to allow for emergency repairs to the Specon line and all supply areas including Zebediela, Lebowakgomo, the rural areas, the city and Seshego were affected.
“We urge residents who have water supply to limit water usage and not water lawns and gardens,” Mothapo said. He apologised for any inconvenience caused by the unforeseen circumstances.
