‘Free and fair’ meeting held by Lim ANCYL
The ANCYL NEC held a meeting on 25 and 26 August to discuss the state of preparedness for the upcoming national congress and received a report of the congress preparatory committee.
POLOKWANE – The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) Limpopo has taken cognisance of the National Executive Council’s directive that Branch General Meetings (BGM) may take place from Tuesday, 4 September, after branches have received a signed BGM package from the national office.

ANCYL National Spokesperson, Mlondi Mkhize, expressed the hope that the meetings will run smoothly with no incidents of violence, using money to influence political views of members, intimidation of members, especially from toxic ANC leaders, and the undermining of organisation processes from deployees to BGMs .

Limpopo will be one of four provinces where there will be oversight at the conducting of BGMs by Regional Executive Councils (RECs) or Regional Task Teams (RTTs), with the RECs and RTTs having full rights and obligations to preside over these BGMs.
A Spokesperson for the ANCYL in Limpopo, Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala, said the league is trying to minimise the number of problems as they want free and fair proceedings during the meetings.
This followed last year’s so-called ‘stolen’ ANCYL conference in Limpopo where only 40 out of 400 branches in the audit report before the conference were said to be real, but the report was signed off anyway.
Vincent Shoba turned 36 on the day he was elected as Chairperson of the ANCYL in Limpopo and was actually too old to have been elected. He and his cohorts were supporters of Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, while the group who supported the then suspended ANCYL Deputy Secretary, Jimmy Machaka, supported Cyril Ramaphosa in the run-up to the ANC Nasrec elective conference in December. Divisions and in-fighting within the ANC and Youth League are running deep in the province, which is feared to cause the organisation to lose credibility.
The ANCYL recently vowed that no structure may be disbanded or stripped off its powers on the eve of 26th National Congress to elect new leadership taking place from 18 to 21 October at Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg. The term of office of the current ANCYL leaders expires in September.
Mkhize said the reports presented to the NEC provided details on membership verification. The NEC also resolved that no structure may be disbanded or stripped of its powers on the eve of the upcoming national congress as it might appear as political intervention designed to achieve certain objectives.
No nominating BGM date has been confirmed yet, Moremi-Taueatsoala said.
