LIMPOPO – The EFF leader Julius Malema has DA Mayor, Marlene van Staden of the Modimolle-Mookgophong Municipality in his sights.
During an interview with Capricorn fm, on Monday 27 August, Malema made it clear that more DA Mayors will be removed. One of these mayors that is on his radar is Marlene van Staden of Modimolle-Mookgophong Municipality.
In an interview with Bosveld Van Staden said: “We will continue our work and it is to serve the inhabitants of the municipality by stabilizing the finances, raising corruption, providing good services and creating a climate where job creation can take place. We will not be struck by those who want to collapse the municipality for own gain.”
Van Staden said she will work with any councillor of any party who cares for the best interests of the community and who wants to see progress in the towns. “That’s how I run coalition politics.”
According to Van Staden the DA has been fighting for two years for a forensic investigation at the municipality to determine why their finances are so disturbed.
“This step has been supported by all the parties in the council. Why after the EFF gave support for a forensic investigation would they now want to collapse the municipality? It’s a pity when politicians want to remove someone based on their race or gender. The test should be whether this person is at the heart of the best interests of the whole community and delivering results that show better service delivery.”
EFF Limpopo Secretary, Jossey Buthane, said the EFF laid complains with the Government Trust Union that the mayor of Modimolle-Mookgophong doesn’t listen to anyone.
“She does not know anything about running the municipality,” he said.
