SAPOA to host workshop for rental owners

The economy is tough and commercial landlords and managing agents should take the opportunity that is offered to bring them abreast of the latest relevant legislation and matters relating to the management of tenants who default on their lease obligations, says Chairperson of the South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) Limpopo, Paul Altenroxel in reference to the one day strategic education session that SAPOA will host at Park Inn by Radisson in the city, on Wednesday.
According to the invitation, the primary objective of the workshop will be to cultivate a broad understanding of the various courses of action available to commercial landlords and managing agents when dealing with tenants who default on their lease obligations.
Interesting topics to be discussed will be rental collections, remedies available for breach of lease and court procedures.
Information on the landlord’s hypothec and other forms of security will be shared and applicable legislation such as the Consumer Protection Act, the Companies Act and the Conventional Penalties Act will, for as far as it is relevant to landlords and tenants, be discussed.
The impact of liquidations and business rescue proceedings on leases as well as insight into recent case law impacting on the industry, will be covered.
The papers will be presented by a rental property litigation expert and the registration fees are R2 500 plus VAT for members and R3 500 plus VAT for non-members.
