[TAKE NOTE] Smart water meter tariffs explained

The approved water block tariffs as from 1 July 2018 are as follows

POLOKWANE – According to statement issued by the Polokwane Municipality on 22 August, the municipality have installed smart water meters across the city.

“All water meters will be converted from post paid to prepaid mode as from the 1 August 2018.”

The approved water block tariffs as from 1 July 2018 are as follows:
– For the first 5kl per is R7.73
– For the following 10kl per is R12.73
– For the following 15kl per kl is R12.15
– For the following 12kl per kl is R13.26
– For the following 20kl per kl is R17.68
– For the following 50kl per kl is R20.99
– For consumption in excess of 100kl per kl is R25.41

The approved water block tariffs for business and commercial as from 1 July 2018 are as follows:

– For the first 30kl per is R17.68
– For the following 20kl per is R23.20
– For consumption in excess of 100kl per kl is R29.83

Where water is supplied to more than one consumer per erf,stand, premises or other area that is served by a communal meter,the following charges will be levied for consumption:
– For the first (30x A) kl on the part where A is the sum of the number of consumers served by a communal meter per kl is R17,68

– For the following (20x A) kl or part where A is the sum of the number of consumers served by a communal meter per kl is R23.20

– For the following (50x A) or part where A is the sum of the number of consumers by a communal meter per kl is R26.52

Do I need a card to buy water, or do I receive a token?

If your water smart meter is installed in prepaid mode, the installer will give you a CIU & Card to purchase the electricity. Behind the card there are instructions on how to use the meter.

Can I buy in bulk?

We urge you not to buy more water units in advance..the more you buy the higher the units. For example, when you buy for three months, your unit is going to be expensive unlike when you buy monthly after finishing your units

Is the tariff the same at all pre-paid outlets?

The units are the same anywhere you buy.

All individuals and companies that are conducting work on your premises will have identification in the form of the following: National Identification; respective service provider branded identification and a letter of introduction.All individuals and companies that are conducting work on your premises will have identification in the form of the following: National Identification; respective service provider branded identification and a letter of introduction.

“Please note that all conversions are to be conducted at no cost to you as the resident. Should you be requested to pay for any service regarding the Smart Metering project, you are advised to contact the municipality or report the incident to your nearest police station,” the municipality said.
