Vhembe District Mayor elected as SALGA Chairperson

Vhembe District Municipality Mayor, Florence Radzilani, was elected as the new Chairperson of the South African Local Government Association (Salga) during the Provincial Members Assembly held at 2Ten Hotel on 7 and 8 August in Sibasa outside Thohoyandou.

LIMPOPO – Limpopo Premier, Chupu Mathabatha, delivered the keynote address and congratulated the newly elected National Deputy President of Salga, Thembi Nkadimeng, who is the outgoing Salga Chairperson.

The two-day sitting focused on the adoption of Salga’s programme of action, business plan and the budget of Salga as approved by the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC), reflect on reports from the provincial working groups and oversight bodies as well as deal with any other issues emanating from the provisions of Salga Constitution applicable to provincial members.

Pule Shai was elected as the Deputy Chairperson. During her address, Radzilani said there is an urgent need to protect women and children against Gender Based Violence (GBV).

“Women always live in fear because of GBV. We must be empowered in order to fight against it,” Radzilani added.
