First Lady raises more than a million

Margaret Mathabatha, the wife of Limpopo Premier, Stanley Chupu Mathabatha, joined by her Gauteng counterpart, Mpho Makhura, raised over R1 million during the First Lady Trust charity golf day last Friday.

MOKOPANE – The event was held at the Kameeldoring Golf Club and Mathabatha says the Charity Golf Day raised more than the envisaged R1 million on the day.

The fund will be used to assist destitute families in an endeavour to provide respectful shelter wherever they reside in the province.

During the betterball stableford format game, 152 players made their way to the fairways and greens for charity as well as great prizes.

The two first ladies played a few rounds for fun before attending to guests.

Limpopo Premier First Lady, Margaret Mathabatha takes the first swing to kick off the First Lady Trust charity golf day at the Kameeldoring Golf Club.

According to Margaret this fund-raising event is the single most important social event for her in terms of creating a platform for the collaboration between public and private sectors institutions, private individual and donors on poverty alleviation or poverty reduction. All proceeds and donations derived through this platform will be used on identified beneficiaries in the province.

“Social responsibility towards disfranchised and less privileged peoples in our communities is an integral part of civil society. This event serves as a platform to deliberate on topical issues that impact on these communities and how public and private sector companies including donors can make a difference with their sponsorship, donations and pledges,” she said.

Jonas Mathato hits perfectly.

She spoke to Review’s sister paper, Bosveld about this special day: “I am very proud to be part of this event. There are so many people who struggle in life and the government can not handle everything alone. We as people must do our part too. The First Lady Trust will give out money to whoever we decide needs it most. I am very happy that so many people joined us on this day, maybe next year I will play my own 18 holes. I can see that everyone enjoyed it immensely. At first we struggled with the trust but now we are coming back and getting the trust from the rest of South Africa to help alleviate poverty. ”

The first lady has in the past five years been able to build more than five houses across Limpopo.

These houses were handed over during the domestic workers’ dinner events held by the first lady were all fully furnished.

This golf day was sponsored by among others, Limpopo Connexion, Energy FM, IT giant Altech, Georosa Africa, In2IT Tech, Dark Fibre Africa, Old Mutual, Broadband Infraco, and Dengalanga Consulting.
