Braai Knights gear up for 2018 competition

This year the Limpopo Toyota Braai Knights contest is back - bigger and better starting on National Braai Day, 24 September.

POLOKWANE – Travelling around the world can be fun but also very costly. This year, the Limpopo Toyota Braai Knights Competition offers participants and guests the opportunity to take their taste buds on a trip around the world with this year’s theme.
This year the Limpopo Toyota Braai Knights contest is back – bigger and better starting on National Braai Day, 24 September.
The format of the competition has changed; in the past it was contested over 13 weeks, but now there will only be six weeks of fun.
There will be five ‘braai-offs’ between five teams for five weeks. The winning team of each week will go through to the final set to take place on Saturday, 27 October.
This year’s venue is the Pavillion Restaurant and the winners will walk away with a grand prize of R25 000.
Two weeks before the competition starts, there will be a braai hosted in the Limpopo Toyota Lapa for all the sponsors and contestants.
Nelmar Smit, organiser of the ever-popular competition, explained at this braai the organisers will determine which teams will be pitted against each other.

Different from past competitions, each team will have to prepare a starter, main course and dessert within a three-hour timeframe.
The meat selection for the next week’s competition will be revealed in Review every Thursday and each team will prepare the same meat selection the following Monday during the competition with their choice of side dish, starter and desert. Points will be awarded for all three dishes. Judges are Dirk Braai Ninja Liebenberg, Bradley Mockford, Christo Hildebrand and Marjorie Knoetze. Three of them will be judging the entrants during each competition with each team setting the table with cutlery for them before serving their dishes. Points will be awarded for each team’s theme/atmosphere. “Various artists such as Jacques Mouton and Juba have agreed to entertain us and our guests to create the well-known welcoming vibe at this prestigious event,” Dirk, a fellow organiser and judge, said. “Johan Liebenberg will join us as the guest of honour during the final to ensure everyone is thoroughly entertained.”
As in the past, the proceeds will be used to assist pre-selected beneficiaries.
This year’s two main beneficiaries:
• Reach to Become a Chef foundation.
• Martha Hofmeyr Old Age Home.
