[LISTEN] “UL is unreliable, that is why we’re striking,” says SRC Secretary

Review spoke exclusively to Kutama Johannes, Branch Secretary of the EFF Student Council about the ongoing strike by students at the University of Limpopo.

POLOKWANE – Following the suspension of academic programming at the University of Limpopo, students remained steadfast to have their demands met.

Students on campus are demanding the release of their NSFAS funding and are also requesting an off campus allowance as well as their meal allowances to be converted to cash.

According to Kutama Johannes, Branch Secretary of the EFF Student Council, the memorandum handed over to the University includes grievances from the students’ last strike earlier this year.

“The vice chancellor promised students that they would receive their money by the end of July and to date, nothing has been received,” he told Review.

He added that the strike is due to the unreliability of the university as it is affecting students both on and off campus.
