[UPDATE] False prophet arrested for raping 16-year-old girl

Police say the self acclaimed prophet sent the victim a text message about receiving divine intervention by him.

LIMPOPO – According to police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the 31-year-old suspect who was highly wanted for rape, was arrested in Lwamondo Mathule village, outside Thohoyandou on Sunday night, 5 August.

Ngoepe says he will appear before the Vuwani Magistrates Court soon.


LIMPOPO – Police in Limpopo are cautioning women of all ages of “unscrupulous individuals calling themselves prophets”, who are out to terrorize them.

This follows the rape of a 16-year-old girl from a village outside Thohoyandou, who was raped by a false prophet.

According to police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, a self-acclaimed prophet sent the victim a text message disguised as a prophet enroute to a church service in Dzwerani village ,outside Thohoyandou. He lured her to come and receive divine intervention for her life problems.

“On her arrival, the ‘prophet’ took her towards the said church and on the way, he instructed her to have sex with him in order to acquire mystical powers. She declined the request but he raped her and forced her to wear black clothing from the bag he was carrying before entering the church with her,” Ngoepe explained. 

The suspect was identified and is still on the run, however, a manhunt is currently underway.
