The State Prosecutor maintains Patel has paid a hitman R15 000 to kill his mother. They allegedly fought about finances.

Patel appealed to the Polokwane High Court after the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court denied his application to be released on bail in February and also denied leave to appeal the rejected bail application.

His legal team maintained that he should be released on bail to care for his three young sons, the youngest which was a baby when his wife Fatima was murdered in April 2015.

The children have been placed into the care of his former mother-in-law, who lives in Gauteng.

Patel is also standing trial for the murder of his wife and was granted bail of R250 000. She had been hit with a baseball bat, strangled and then shot in the head.

He was still out on bail when he was arrested for the alleged murder of his mother.

In the mean time his father was also shot execution-style a year before his mother. Nobody has yet been apprehended for his murder.

Patel has denied any involvement in the murder of either his wife or his mother.

Rameez’s younger brother Razeen was shot between Mankweng and Polokwane two weeks ago, on the R71, a day before he would have testified against his brother in his wife’s murder case.

The suspect in the Razeen case handed himself over to the police and was released on bail of R5 000 in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court. He will appear in court again on 7 September. Razeen, who fled the country before coming back to give evidence in the trial, has now reportedly been granted permission to visit his brother in London.

Rameez will appear in the Polokwane High Court on 11 September for the alleged murder of his mother and on the 17 September for the alleged murder of his wife.
