Taxi passenger shot and killed during armed robbery alongside N1

The man was allegedly shot and killed while grabbing a firearm from the armed suspect

LIMPOPO – The Modimolle Police are looking for a group of suspects involved in the murder of a man during an armed robbery along the N1 South near Kranskop at around 05:45 this morning.

The victim was one of twenty two passenger in a taxi which was traveling from Johannesburg to Zimbabwe.

Police spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngoepe said the taxi had stopped alongside the road for the passengers to relive themselves when they were accosted by the armed suspects.

“The passengers had requested the driver to stop the taxi next to the road so that they could relieve themselves. During the process the passengers were accosted by four armed suspects who robbed them of their cellphones and money. The victim allegedly grabbed the gun from one of the suspects, a shot was fired and he was killed,” he explained.

The suspects in this matter are still unknown and the police appeals to anyone with information to contact Captain Richard Boshomane at 079 894 5501.

“Alternatively they can contact the 24-hour crime stop number on 0860010111,  the crime line sms 32211 or the nearest Police Station.”

Police investigations are still continuing, he concluded.
