LIMPOPO – Vhembe Mayor, Florence Radzilani, condemned the prevalent violence against women and children in Limpopo during a visit to the family whose three children were killed in Many village, Makhado on Sunday.

The family was also visited by Makhado Mayor, Shonisani Sinyosi.

According to police, the three children, aged between two and seven years, were killed following an argument between their mother and father. When the misunderstanding got out of hand, the wife ran away and jumped the fence to seek protection in the neighbouring house and the father decided to kill his three children, Augaho (2), Thabo (6) and Tshilidzi Madou (7), with a sharp object.

Radzilani said looking at the statistics in Limpopo, the Vhembe region is leading when it comes to the killing of women and children.

“Most of the time these crimes are carried out by men, people who are supposed to be the protectors. We are not here to judge the father but to pray to God to forgive him and pray for the family to have peace during this difficult period,” Radzilani, who is also the Chairperson of the ANC Women’s League in Vhembe, said. The accused appeared briefly in the Dzanani Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder and the matter was postponed to 2 August for further investigations.

Brother of the accused and family spokesperson, Daniel Madou, said they were saddened by the incident and thanked government for visiting the family and showing them support in this very difficult time.
