Young artists seizes opportunity to make a living

Using his talent with pencil and paper, Emmanuel Morema (22) is earning a living with his drawings.

LIMPOPO – The talented boy from Lenyenye village in Tzaneen is proud of th15e great work he does and told CV he grew up enjoying making portraits and is happy to be able to make a living with out of them.

The young talented artist said he enjoyed drawing subjects most since his primary school years and over the years his passion has steadily grown.

“I received many compliments from people in my village, including my teachers, who admired my artwork. They encouraged me to focus on my portrait drawing talent and skills,” Morema said, adding he normally draws portraits of celebrities during his spare time to advertise his business.

“I draw not only to earn a living, there is a message behind each one of my portraits.”

He explained many people see the kind of work he does as one of the more difficult jobs but to him, he explained, it comes naturally.

“It takes me only 30 minutes to complete an A4 paper drawing,” he smiled.

He said like everyone, due to unavailability of customers his business was challenging at first but he never thought of giving up on it.

“I used to do my drawing at night and go to town every morning to advertise my work,” he said.

Even though it was difficult at first to get his business off the ground, he never thought about giving up.

“I used to draw at night and then take my artworks to town to advertise them. I believe we need to take art seriously because we can use it to create memories. Drawing is part of my life and I enjoy spending my time on it,” he said.

Morema added due to the unemployment challenges facing the youth, he feels it is important to look inward and focus on our natural talent.

“It is a harsh truth but as youth we continue to fail reaching our goals and dreams due to our laziness,” said Morema, adding he believes his talent will better his life and encouraged other youths to find their passions.

“Talents are gifts from God and we need to showcase them to the public,” he said.
