Park Inn Polokwane leads Mandela Day

Park Inn by Radisson Polokwane, the Sapa Yopa Motorcycle Club and Jaguar Land Rover Polokwane honoured the legacy of Nelson Mandela by visiting Makgona Drop-in Centre in Mmotong on Wednesday, 18 July.

POLOKWANE – Their 67 minutes started at Jack Botes Park where they had a meet and greet then handed out sandwiches while people took the opportunity to take photographs with the team.

From there, in a convoy of the Sapa Yopa bikers and the Land Rover vehicles, the roads led to Seshego Circle where they continued their deeds of kindness by handing out sandwiches. Their last stop was Makgona Drop-in Centre, which was the main purpose of the entire initiative.

Mahlatse ‘Mahlatze Vokal’ Matji carries Phathutshedzo Mkhumeleni and with them are Sapa Yopa Motorcycle Club bikers Lesiba “Lessboggie” Chuene and Collin ‘Malik-Yob’ Maleka.

They handed donated food and blankets to the centre and treated the children and community to a lunch prepared Park Inn Polokwane style.

Park Inn by Radisson Polokwane personnel, Precious Majola (Executive Housekeeper), Phume Khethang (Director of Sales), Thabo Rafuthu (General Manager) and Prenisha Rajdev (Marketing Manager).

Thabo Rafuthu, Park Inn by Radisson Polokwane General Manager, expressed joy at the chance to spend Mandela Day at the Makgona Drop-in Centre. “We are happy to be here today to celebrate the legacy of Nelson Mandela with everyone here at Mmotong. I would be doing an injustice if I don’t acknowledge the people we worked with; the bikers from Sapa Yopa, thank you for being with us today. Our partners from Jaguar Land Rover, thank you so much for being here today, it really means a lot to us. The team from Park Inn by Radisson Polokwane thank you for your presence today. Muzo Brothers, I know you are going to be doing some entertaining. As well as Bidvest Services that assisted us with the flowers and play area. Last but not least, thanks to our hosts, Makgona Drop-in Centre, we have been working together for a month and may this partnership and relationship we have built so far continue for years going forward. We are here to celebrate with the little ones, the first time I was here I was impressed by their behaviour and everything that gets done in this small space.”

He further added it is not all about the material things but time as well, adding the appreciation they received when they spent time there playing and reading to the children was amazing.

Maphuti Kgwadi, the house mother at Makgona Drop-in Centre expressed her gratitude to everyone who was involved in making Mandela Day special for the children.

She said the children were overjoyed and had fun when Park Inn by Radisson Polokwane previously visited the centre. She also spoke about the legacy Nelson Mandela left as it has encouraged people to dedicate a day to helping people who are less fortunate.
