A middle-aged man is expected to appear in the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court later today (Friday) after he was arrested on charges relating to poaching in the Letsitele area yesterday (Thursday).
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe indicated that security officers were following up information on suspected poachers on the farm when they spotted a suspicious looking bakkie. When they approached the vehicle sixpersons fled into the bush while the driver sped off resulting in a car chase, according to Ngoepe.
The driver was cornered soon after and the Police informed. Two impala carcasses were found on the back of the bakkie and further investigations yielded a kudu, an ostrich, six impala and three nyala carcasses found at the farm and confiscated.
Ngoepe said the suspect is facing a charge of illegal hunting.
The search for the other suspects continues and anyone with information can contact investigating officer Cecil Machimani on 082 451 7181 or report to the nearest Police station.
