Unity was the buzz word when scores of African National Congress (ANC) supporters packed Ngoako Ramatlhodi Sports Complex in Seshego Sunday afternoon for a Nelson Mandela memorial lecture programme, hosted by the party’s Peter Mokaba Region.
The lecture was the culmination of a series in all four sub-regions of Peter Mokaba Region, celebrating the life and times of and honouring the struggle icon, it was learnt.
ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) member and ANC Head of Elections Fikile Mbalula delivered the lecture and a fiery speech in a local narrative, his voice bellowing over the massive speakers as he emphasised unity and renewal of the ANC. In a translated version of his address forwarded in a media statement issued by ANC Peter Mokaba Regional Secretary Eugene Masete, Mbalula was further quoted reiterating the importance of a united and strong ANC in Mandela’s honour.
Mbalula indicated that a divided ANC was not good for the country and people of South Africa. He further praised the unity displayed by delegates to all ANC provincial and regional conferences across the country, who chose the organisation above slate politics.
Recently elected ANC Peter Mokaba Regional Chairperson John Mpe, who welcomed guests to the event, remarked that the huge number of people who attended the lecture showed great signs of renewed hope and confidence in the organisation.
