Local shop sells R47 million winning Lotto ticket

Every week people across South Africa buy Lotto tickets in the hopes of striking it lucky.

POLOKWANE – On Saturday, 21 July someone’s Lotto dream became a reality with the winning ticket being bought in Mankweng just outside of the city.

A representative from National Lottery confirmed to Review that the winning ticket of R47,3 million was bought at a shop in Mankweng, however, since Mankweng is a relatively small community, the shop owner who sold the winning ticket wished to remain anonymous.

Lotto tickets are sold across the country at a variety of shop outlets and on Wednesdays and Saturdays the winning numbers are announced for the Lotto, Lotto Plus and Lotto Plus 2.

The PowerBall and PowerBall Plus draws are done on Tuesdays and Fridays and winners of the Pick 3 competition are announced every day.

Mankweng is a hub for villages around it and the Paledi Mall is a popular stopping place for transport services and residents which brings a lot to the community’s economy. The University of Limpopo is also located in the township as well as some local radio stations such as Radio Turf. It is also the hometown of former ANC Youth League President, Peter Mokaba and boasts a rich history.
