Caring is Kabelo’s passion and his job lets him live his dream

Kabelo Sekakampa is a Seshego resident with a passion for helping people and he realised his dream of becoming a paramedic just over a year and five months ago.

POLOKWANE – “I am a generous person who loves helping others, especially the elderly, as communicating and interacting with people are some of my passions and my job gives me the chance to do all of this,” he says.

He studied at EMCare and started with the basic ambulance assistant course, knowing he would like to be one of his own heroes by becoming a first responder.

He describes himself as someone who likes to treat all people as equal.

“I am determined and when I want something, I will leave no stone unturned to reach any goal I have,” he says.

He advises people to never give up on their dreams, no matter what they may be. “You are the first and last person who must believe in yourself, the rest will follow with hard work.”

Something that makes his life difficult, however, is when you are uncertain if a patient will survive due to the extent of their injuries despite doing everything in your power to save them.

“Treating someone with a minor injury helps me feel good to know this person will make a full recovery. You walk away knowing someone is better because of you. I think more young people must look at being someone in the medical profession. We need more medical personnel as we lose people daily because we cannot be everywhere at the same time and sometimes things can get hectic,” he explains.

When Kabelo is not hard at work or keeping up his studies, he loves playing and watching soccer. He reads newspapers and loves talking to people and spending time getting to know new people.

“I believe there are many people today who are negative and I would like to tell them there are good people out there, people who are selfless and will do their best to save a life. We hope you will not need us soon, but if you do, I will be there with a smile and the knowledge to assist you and I hope that when we meet, your life will be better for it,” he adds.
