The nine men and one woman who appeared in Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today (Thursday) on charges relating to alleged unrest in Westenburg this week were each granted R500 bail.
According to Provincial Police spokesperson Mampashwa Seabi the suspects had to appear in court again on 17 September this year after the cases were postponed for further investigation. Charges include assault on a Police member(s), malicious damage to property and public violence.
The names are still being awaited.
“Communities are advised to follow the correct protocols when engaging in protest marches, and have a permit to protest (rather) than risking to face the mighty hand of the law,” Seabi warned.
