Double murder accused Rameez Patel will remain behind bars after the Limpopo High Court dismissed his appeal on refusal of bail earlier this morning (Thursday).
Members of the African National Congress’s Women’s League (ANCWL) in the province attended the proceedings in their numbers and welcomed the judgement.
Patel appealed the judgement pronounced in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court in February when he was denied bail in connection with the alleged killing of his mother, Mahjebeen in September last year. Patel was arrested in connection with the murder a few days after the incident and has since been in custody.
Patel is also standing trial in the murder case of his wife Fatima. The case was postponed last week after his brother, Razeen a key witness in the case was allegedly shot four times outside the city a day before he was expected to testify against him.
The suspect in the shooting incident, Ali Salman handed himself over to Police days later and already appeared in the Mankweng Regional Court on a charge of attempted murder. He is also expected to apply for bail today (Thursday).
The trial relating to Fatima’s murder is expected to continue in September.
