Mokopane Education Expo: come and meet the experts

The idea behind the event is to create a platform where parents, educators and trainers can meet to discuss ways to enhance their children's development

MOKOPANE – Parents and educators are always looking for ways to educate children or to find solutions to learning problems.

The owners of the Resource, Equipping and Training (RET) Centre has opened its premises up to all educators and sport clubs for the first-ever Education Expo in Mokopane on Saturday, 21 July, from 09:00 to 14:00.

“The idea is to create a platform where parents, educators and trainers can meet to discuss ways to enhance their children’s development,” says education specialist, Elaine Jansen van Rensburg.

“We invite everyone to contact us and participate or support this worthy cause.”

The Education Expo is open to everyone and has a full programme with something for everyone.

Several sports clubs have agreed to host demonstrations to show parents what they offer.

Exciting demonstrations will be done by the Tokon Shotokan Karate Mokopane Club, the Eresabel Fencing Club, Marshall’s Gymnastics Club, Brave Wrestling Club and the drummies from Mokopane Primary School (who performed at the country’s national’s earlier this month).

Specialist educational speakers have been invited to present and answer questions under the RET Centre’s famous marula tree.

These include educational psychologist Francois Smit who will discuss practical guidelines to support children with special needs like ADHD, autism, trauma and other learning problems in the classroom.

Physiotherapist and Myofascial Activated Posture instructor, Sari Jacobs, will talk about joint stiffness and pain and how to restore mobility, strength and proprioception.

Several experienced educators will join the expo – Elsabe Brits will discuss visual literacy; 21st Century education, digital advances in reading by Minda Marshall; Nicole Londt will talk about developing listening skills in a visual world in the classroom; Esther Soal will cover interactive mathematics and Angela Barclay will talk about line drawings and the power of ‘I can!’

In addition to these talks and demonstrations, activities and exhibition stands have been added to the offerings.

Stands include higher education institutions like Compass Academy of Learning, Playball Mokopane, MiniChess, Master Maths and Science, Crafty Kids, educational toys and services suppliers.

There will be food stands offering delicious meals, including pap and kaiings, vetkoek and mince and hamburgers as well as muffins and coffee to ward off the cold.

Other activities include special tours of the Mokopane Destiny Academy Cube building, a children’s playground, face painting, sack races, ‘kettie skiet’, horseback rides and science activities to keep the children enthralled.

Various competitions will take place throughout the day with the scooter race for toddlers definitely being one not to miss, “We invite the entire Mogalakwena community and neighbouring schools to support these educational suppliers and service providers and be part of an event that can only be beneficial to Mokopane,” says Jansen van Rensburg.

The gate fee of R10 per adult and R5 per child will go towards covering costs and will provide access to all the activities.

“All institutions or suppliers are welcome to join us and exhibit at only R100 per 3 x 3 m stand. For more information, contact (015) 491 2049 or send an e-mail to office@mda4life.co.za for a booking form.”
