In an effort to manage future disruptions to the city’s water supply, a high-level meeting between officials of Polokwane Municipality and Lepelle Northern Water (LNW), the bulk water supplier, took place earlier today. Details of the outcome of the meeting are awaited.
In the meanwhile, water supply in the city and other affected areas has improved since yesterday (Sunday) but the levels of the city’s reservoirs remain low.
Disree Manyane, Stakeholder Relations Officer of the municipality, says in a media release that repairs to the 500mm line that was allegedly damaged by a contractor on Friday, were completed on Sunday afternoon and that the line is being monitored.
“The reservoir levels are improving steadily. However, an appeal is made to the public to continue using water sparingly to assist the reservoir levels to reach stability. Water consumption should be restricted to domestic or household usage only,” Manyane urged and added that the municipality appreciates the patience demonstrated by the community of Polokwane during the past five days and further apologises to all stakeholders for the inconvenience caused.
“The Municipal Manager this morning had a fruitful meeting with Lepelle Northern Water to resolve on the recurring issues that lead to inconsistent water supply to Polokwane. The meeting also focused on the medium to long-term solutions to bring stable supply to Polokwane,” Manyane reported.
