Razeen found ‘alive and well’, set to continue testimony in Rameez Patel murder trial

Razeen Patel failed to appear in court on Monday, 9 July

POLOKWANE – Razeen Patel is set to testify in the trial of murder accused Rameez Patel in the Polokwane High Court on Monday.

This is after a source revealed to Review that Razeen was found alive and well at the parental home in Nirvana after he failed to testify in court on Monday, 9 July.

Investigating officer, Richard Boshomane, went to the Patel parental home in Nirvana to look for Razeen when he failed to appear in court but couldn’t locate him. Instead he found Razeen’s bloodstained bakkie with his cell phone and keys inside as well as a bloodstain on the ground next to the bakkie.

As per the source, Razeen did not feel well and had taken some medication. He was found at the house and allegedly did not hear people calling or looking for him.

Police spokespersons on Monday didn’t want to comment on Boshomane’s statement regarding his search for Razeen.

Rameez is on trial for the murder of his wife, Fatima in 2015. He was also charged with the murder of his mother, Mahjebeen Patel, in September last year. Rameez’s bail hearing in the murder trial for his mother is set for 30 July in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court.
Rameez’s defence attorney, Tumi Mokwena, who did not attend the court sitting, earlier this year withdrew from the case, but he will seemingly continue to represent Rameez when the trial is set to resume on Monday.

Rameez Patel appeared in the Polokwane High Court on the murder of his wife Fatima in April 2015, and was also charged with the murder of his mother, Mahajeen Banu Patel in September last year. His father, Feroz, was also murdered execution-style in his vehicle in August 2016. Nobody has as yet been apprehended for his murder.

Limpopo High Court Judge Joseph Raulinga postponed Patel’s trial after Boshomane testified that Razeen could not be found at the house he stayed in Nirvana. Boshomane found Razeen’s Nissan bakkie with locked doors and what seemed to be Razeen’s cell phone and house keys inside the bakkie. None of the neighbours could provide information on Razeen’s whereabouts.

Patel’s defence lawyer, Tumi Mokwena, who did not attend the court sitting this morning, earlier this year withdrew from the case, but will seemingly continue to represent Rameez Patel on Monday when he is due back in court. Advocate Johann Engelbrecht, who was earlier reported to now represent Patel, during a telephonic conversation early this morning, said he would be defending Patel next week.
