University of Limpopo’s (UL) Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Partnerships Jesika Singh believes the institution’s participation in the South Africa-Sweden University Forum (Sasuf) will yield significant results.
Information contained in a statement issued by the UL, the Sasuf has a budget of over R276 million, sufficient to carry the Innovation and Research programmes at UL for a period of three years. “The partnerships started in May and are funded by the Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education (Stint), South Africa’s National Research Foundation (NRF) and the Department of Higher Education and Training,” the statement read.
Sasuf is a collaboration between 30 universities in Sweden and South Africa together with embassies, civil society organisations and funding agencies in both countries. As a strategic internationalisation project, it aims to strengthen ties between Sweden and South Africa in research, education and innovation.
Singh was quoted to have said that the partnership is an opportunity for the university to internationalise its research and innovation while meaningfully contributing solutions to global challenges. “The University has begun collaborations with researchers in Sweden in various researches. This means that there are existing possibilities in terms of staff and student mobility with Sweden. Through this partnership we have forged links with key researchers in order to engage in robust research collaborations to contribute to knowledge generation and research capacity development.”
